The Lagos Chapter Chairman of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Alumni Association, Mr. Gafar Odubote, has called for the establishment of professional development platforms for members and students globally, during the inauguration of the UK, Ireland, and Europe chapter in London.
Speaking at the event, Odubote urged the new chapter to introduce a digital alumni directory to enhance communication, mentorship, and career growth for members in the diaspora.
He said, “We look forward to exploring joint initiatives in education, cultural exchange, and alumni-student mentorship that will benefit both local and diaspora communities.”
The new executives of the UK, Ireland, and Europe chapter include Mr. Kunle Orekoya (Chairman), Mr. Gbenga Yeku (Secretary), Pastor Deji Abioye (Treasurer), Mrs. Margret James (Welfare and Ireland Coordinator), and Alhaji Razak Ashiru.
Odubote described the event as a demonstration of leadership and unity by the diaspora community and reaffirmed Lagos chapter’s commitment to collaborating with the newly inaugurated chapter.
He also expressed gratitude to National President Ezekiel Obasanya, Chairman Kunle Orekoya, and the Council of Distinguished Alumni, pledging to refer and connect alumni abroad to the chapter.
National President Obasanya praised the new chapter for its commitment, stating that the association is not only for reunions but also for opportunities in entrepreneurship, personal development, community action, and international cooperation.
Past National President Mr. Olalekan Otun encouraged the UK chapter to create active social platforms to connect diaspora sets and pledged support to both the UK and North America chapters.
In a separate tribute, Odubote paid homage to the late Mr. Taiwo Otunba, former Head of MAPOLY’s Mass Communication Department, calling him a revered linguist, scholar, and mentor whose influence continues to guide professionals.
Otunba was remembered for his eloquence, passion for communication studies, and his role in shaping media professionalism, with tributes also coming from Olalekan Otun and other community members.
The late scholar was known for his unique teaching style and community leadership in Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, where he lived near former President Olusegun Obasanjo. He dedicated over 30 years to academia at MAPOLY.
