Hollywood actress, Amber Heard’s legal team, has filed to appeal the verdict from her defamation lawsuit involving ex, Johnny Depp.
According to Daily Mail UK, the lawyers representing Heard, filed the appeal on the grounds that the verdict that she had defamed Depp was not supported by evidence.
It was also alleged that a juror had not been properly screened and questioned whether that juror was even supposed to serve on the jury.
It was reported that Heard’s lawyers argued that the verdict and the $10million damages awarded to Depp, should be dismissed on the grounds that during the trial, Depp “proceeded solely on a defamation by implication theory, abandoning any claims that Ms. Heard’s statements were actually false.”
Reacting to the appeal, Depp’s lead attorney, Ben Chew, in a statement to Courthouse News, said “What we expected, just longer, no more substantive.”
Heard and Depp had been found to have defamed each other in the verdict from their widely-publicised trial in June, but the damages awarded were more in Depp’s favor.
He was awarded $10.35million in damages from Heard, while she was awarded $2million in damages from Depp.
