Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has approved N81.6 million as a Christmas bonus for the state’s 544 traditional rulers. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Uzor Nwachukwu, in a recent statement.
According to the commissioner, each traditional ruler will receive N150,000 as part of the festive gesture, with payments scheduled to be completed by December 10, 2024.
“His Excellency, Dr. Alex C. Otti, has graciously approved this bonus as a way of recognizing the vital role traditional rulers play in fostering peace, security, and development within their communities. The governor encourages continued partnership with his administration to enhance these efforts,” Nwachukwu stated.
The Chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, expressed gratitude on behalf of the traditional institution, describing the gesture as unprecedented.
“The Christmas bonus demonstrates Governor Otti’s respect and acknowledgment of the traditional institution’s role in Abia State,” Eze Mbah noted.
This move has been praised as a sign of the governor’s commitment to strengthening relations with traditional authorities and fostering harmony within the state.
