The Abia State Government has announced that it will commence the payment of the new minimum wage to workers starting in October. This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, during a press briefing on Monday after the weekly State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.
Kanu confirmed that the new wage structure “will cut across all categories of workers” in the state. The decision is part of the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of public servants.
In addition to the wage increase, Kanu revealed that the state is set to enhance the administration of justice by constructing 17 new court halls, one in each of the state’s 17 local government areas.
The Commissioner also announced that the Ministry of Health will organize a free medical outreach next week in Ugwunnagbo, providing free consultations, maternal and child healthcare, and diagnostic services.
In a move to celebrate Abia’s sporting talents, Governor Otti plans to host the state’s para-Olympic athletes, including Miss Onyinyechi Mark, who won gold in the 61kg category, and Miss Esther Nworgu, who secured silver in the 41kg class.
These initiatives highlight the government’s dedication to improving healthcare, justice, and sports development in Abia State.
