The African Council for Communication Education (ACCE), the pioneer professional association that unites all communication scholars and practitioners in Africa, is ready for its Golden Jubilee celebration as well as the 25th International Conference of the council to be held at Baze University, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.
The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris has accepted to chair the double-barrelled event, while Lt Col. A.Y. Ngulde, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations, would be the Special Guest of Honour at the opening ceremony slated for November 13, 2024, at Baze University, Abuja, Nigeria.
The President of ACCE Nigerian Chapter, Prof. Abdullahi Bashir, who doubles as Dean Faculty of Media and Communication Studies University of Abuja, recently made the disclosure in a press release he delivered to the media through Dr Obiorah Edogor, Director of Public Affairs of African Council for Communication Education ACCE, Nigeria Chapter.
The press release indicated that, the first plenary session of the conference with the theme “ACCE, Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: Reassessing Communication Dynamics for Sustainable Development in Africa,” would take place on the same Wednesday immediately after the opening ceremony where the Golden Jubilee celebration shall take place.
The ACCE-Nigerian Chapter President further disclosed that Flexisaf Edusoft Limited and FactCheck Africa are technical partners to the council in the event. He also noted that Director General of the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Alhaji Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos and a famous communication scholar Prof Des Wilson, of Obong University, Akwa Ibom State, would be Lead Speaker-One and Lead Speaker-Two respectively.
Prof. Bashir stated that a renowned communication scholar and Vice-Chancellor Federal University Kashere, Prof Umaru Pate would expectedly be among the top guests while the Vice-Chancellor of Glorious Vision University and Deputy National President, ACCE Nigerian Chapter, Prof. Ezekiel Asemah would propose the Golden Jubilee toast for the 50th anniversary celebration of the council during the forthcoming conference.
He noted that the Vice-Chancellor of Baze University Abuja, Prof Kathleen Ebele Okafor is the host of the event that will attract all communication experts across different countries of Africa to Abuja, Nigeria. All staff, the management, and the students of the university are in high expectations of the great prospects of the epoch-making event that their university is the first private institution of higher learning to host in the North-Central Nigeria.
Also, information from the council revealed that the Chairman of the ACCE Board of Trustees BoT, and First female professor of Mass Communication in Sub-Saharan Africa, Prof Chinyere Stella Okunna as well as some other members of the BoT will storm Abuja for the conference and the Golden Jubilee celebration of the popular communication body in Africa.
The press release from the ACCE also indicated that the plenary sessions for the conference would continue on Thursday, November 14, 2024, and the Annual General Meeting of the council would take place on the same date to mark the end of the event, and the participants shall depart to their various destinations from November 15, 2024.
