The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) took decisive action today, dismantling illegal structures and shanties in the Government Residential Area (G.R.A) behind the new Government House and Lodge in Awka, Anambra State Capital.
Mr. Nkwachukwu Okonkwo, Deputy Commander of the Development Control Unit, addressed the media, stating that the operation was part of the agency’s mandate to ensure legal and properly situated constructions. Despite issuing stop-work orders, builders continued their activities and even attacked ACTDA officials.
Mr. Okonkwo emphasized that the agency would persist in its duties despite daily threats, reiterating that any unauthorized structures or those obstructing water channels would be removed. Among the demolished structures was the Zenith Maternity Hospital at Inenzu Estate, Okpuno Awka, which had repeatedly ignored stop-work orders.
Under the leadership of Mr. Ossy Onuko, Managing Director and CEO of ACTDA, the agency remains committed to implementing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of transforming Awka into a smart mega city.
