ACTDA to Launch Paving Stone Road Construction Initiative

The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) is set to begin constructing inner roads using paving stones within its jurisdiction.

The announcement was made by Mr. Ossy Onuko, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, during the commissioning of a 130-meter road in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area, also constructed with paving stones.

Engineer Ifeanyi Okoma, Anambra State Commissioner for Works, represented by Director of Highways Engineer Noel Okoye, praised the ACTDA’s efforts, noting that paving stone roads are both durable and long-lasting. He commended the ACTDA’s innovations under Mr. Onuko’s leadership.

Mr. Onuko detailed that the paving stone initiative was conceived and implemented by ACTDA, aiming to use the Amansea road project as a model for future inner road constructions in the Awka Capital Territory. He highlighted that the road features an advanced drainage system and solar-powered street lights, aligning with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of transforming the city into a smart mega city.

Reverend Father Dr. Raphael Onyekwelu, whose residence is on the street, expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for statewide development and praised Mr. Onuko and his team for their commendable work in Awka Capital Territory.

State House of Assembly members Hon. Jude Akpua and Hon. Johnmark Ikwunne also lauded Mr. Onuko for his innovative approach, calling the road a significant improvement over previous infrastructure.

Engineer Vincent Ojukwu, who constructed the road, assured attendees of its longevity, estimating it to last between 15 to 20 years. He noted that paving stone roads are durable, cost-effective, and easy to maintain.

The commissioning event was attended by local dignitaries, including Transition Committee Chairmen Prince Chinedu Okafor and Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, among others.
