The Action Peoples Party (APP) has emerged victorious in the recently concluded local government elections in Rivers State, winning 22 out of the 23 available chairmanship positions. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) officially declared the results on Saturday after the completion of the collation process.
Justice Adolphus Enebeli (rtd), Chairman of the RSIEC, made the announcement at the commission’s office in Port Harcourt. He confirmed that the APP had won all but one of the local government chairmanship positions, with the result for Etche Local Government Area still pending as collation continues.
The RSIEC reported that the elections took place across 6,866 units statewide, with participation from 18 political parties. Enebeli commended the commitment of the political parties and the people of Rivers State, describing the electoral process as “smooth, safe, free, fair, credible, and transparent.” He noted that the elections were conducted without violence, despite various challenges faced.

The RSIEC is expected to announce the results for the Etche Local Government Area and the 319 councillorship positions once the collation is completed.
