The eagerly anticipated grand finale of the Aguata Local Government Area Solution Games Tournament unfolded at the picturesque Umuchu Mini-Stadium, marking the culmination of a series of thrilling sporting events.
Organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Aguata Chapter, the tournament concluded with a riveting football match pitting teams representing Aguata Council Area against each other, with Aguata North triumphing over Aguata South in a penalty shootout after a goalless regulation time.
Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, the Transition Committee Chairman of Aguata Council Area, commended the NYCN Aguata Chapter for spearheading the tournament, which provided an avenue for positive youth engagement and talent discovery across all fourteen communities in Aguata.
Mr. Mmaduabuchi Ezekafor, the Coordinator of NYCN Aguata Chapter, underscored the tournament’s significance in honoring and supporting Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his youth-friendly governance and inclusive decision-making processes. He lauded the governor’s efforts in youth empowerment, particularly through initiatives like “One Youth, Two Skills,” and teacher recruitment.
Representing the Chairman of the occasion, former Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, Mr. Chukwuka Nwankwo expressed delight at the event’s potential to foster healthy interactions among youths while applauding the initiative.
Mr. Emeka Obi, Anambra State Chairman of NYCN, commended Aguata Chapter for its proactive approach and thanked the state government for its consistent support of youth initiatives.
Various speakers at the event, including Mr. Chinedu Nweke, President of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYON) of Ekwulobia Diocese, and Mr. Kelechi Okpala, Public Relations Officer of NYCN Aguata Chapter, hailed the tournament’s positive impact on the lives of young people.
In addition to the football match, the event featured a Tug of War competition between Man O’ War and Royal Rangers, as well as a wheelchair race for individuals with physical disabilities. Attendees also enjoyed a variety of other games such as swimming, lawn tennis, chess, and volleyball.
The festivities concluded with a ceremony honoring the winners with certificates and medals, underscoring the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship that characterized the entire tournament.
