AIRS Promotes Tax Awareness Through Statewide School Competition

Lady Hannah International Secondary School, Awada Obosi, emerged victorious in the Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) School Tax Competition, a program aimed at increasing tax awareness among young people and highlighting its importance to societal development.

With the theme *”Increasing Tax Awareness in Tomorrow’s Leaders,”* the competition featured three finalist schools: Lady Hannah International Secondary School, Awada Obosi; Marist Comprehensive College, Nteje; and Grace Court Academy, Awka, representing the state’s senatorial zones.

Addressing the students, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, highlighted how the state’s developmental strides are powered by tax contributions. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the judicious use of tax revenue and urged citizens to fulfill their civic duties to accelerate the state’s progress.

The Managing Director and CEO of AIRS, Dr. Greg Ezeilo, reiterated the administration’s focus on transparency and innovation in tax management. He noted that AIRS has introduced new measures to enhance tax awareness and simplify processes, leveraging technology and public engagement as core strategies.

Dr. Ezeilo further applauded Governor Soludo’s leadership, which has demonstrated the value of tax revenue in driving infrastructure and other developmental projects across Anambra.

The Convener of the competition, Mrs. Amara Oyeka, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue (Technical), stated that the program aims to educate young people on the link between tax responsibility and good governance.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Mr. Chris Molokwu, pledged ABS’s support in spreading awareness about taxes as a civic obligation.

The event concluded with the presentation of trophies and educational materials to the winning schools and participants, marking a significant step in fostering a tax-conscious generation.
