The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Ukpono Ekopntak, who is believed to be a member of an armed robbery gang. The arrest occurred during a routine “stop and search” patrol at the Ekom Iman roundabout. The police were alerted by a businessman who had been robbed of his valuables while on a business trip to Aba, Abia State. The police immediately pursued the suspects, leading to Ekopntak’s arrest, while other gang members managed to escape.
According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, two motorbikes were recovered at the scene of the crime. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Waheed Ayilara, has reassured residents of the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements from the state. He also warned members of clandestine groups to abandon their activities, as the police would not tolerate their presence.
