Alex Iwobi Scores 25th Premier League Goal in Fulham’s Loss to Wolves

Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi reached a significant career milestone on Saturday, scoring his 25th Premier League goal during Fulham’s 4-1 defeat to Wolves at Craven Cottage.

Iwobi opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a spectacular effort. After receiving a pass from Kenny Tete, the 28-year-old surged forward, exploiting Wolves’ retreating defense. He curled a left-footed shot into the far corner, leaving Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa helpless.

While Iwobi’s strike momentarily gave Fulham hope, Wolves mounted a formidable comeback. Matheus Cunha equalized before halftime, showcasing brilliant control and a deft finish over Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno. The second half saw Wolves dominate, with Joao Gomes scoring from Cunha’s assist and Cunha adding a second goal of his own with a precise top-corner effort. Goncalo Guedes sealed the victory late with a counter-attacking goal, delivering a convincing result for Gary O’Neil’s side.

Despite the heavy loss, Iwobi’s performance was a silver lining. Known for his technical skill and versatility, Iwobi has been a key figure for Fulham this season, contributing three goals and two assists in 12 appearances.

Iwobi’s Premier League journey began in 2015 with Arsenal. Since then, he has made 265 league appearances across Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham, scoring 25 goals and providing 32 assists. His latest milestone places him eighth among Nigerian Premier League scorers, behind Victor Anichebe (27) and far from Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s record 95 goals. During his time at Arsenal, Iwobi netted 11 goals, followed by six at Everton. Since joining Fulham, he has scored eight goals in just two seasons, solidifying his reputation as one of Nigeria’s finest football exports.

Iwobi’s consistency and adaptability make him an indispensable player for Fulham under Marco Silva. While the team seeks to recover from the defeat, fans and analysts alike anticipate more stellar performances from Iwobi, whose journey in the Premier League is far from over.
