In a bid to alleviate the plight of vulnerable individuals in Anambra state, the Aliko Dangote Foundation has initiated the distribution of 10,000 bags of rice, each weighing 10 kilograms.
The distribution, currently underway across various local government areas of the state, is being facilitated by the Justice Development And Peace Caritas (JDPC) of Awka Diocese.
The distribution event saw the participation of Presidents General from all communities in Aguata Local Council area, who gathered to receive 50 bags of the 10kg rice allocation per community.
Speaking to the Presidents General, Reverend Father Levi Uko, Executive Director of JDPC, Awka Diocese, underscored the organization’s role as a trusted facilitator in ensuring the equitable distribution of rice to the targeted beneficiaries in Anambra state.
Father Uko revealed that distribution has already taken place in Orumba North and South, Anaocha, Njikoka, parts of Dunukofia, and Aguata council areas, with plans for continued distribution the following day. He emphasized the utilization of a WhatsApp platform for accountability, where Presidents General are expected to provide evidence of the distribution through short video recordings or pictures.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, Father Uko noted that while such gestures have been commonplace in the North, this marks the first time a similar endeavor has been undertaken in the South East region.
Expressing gratitude for the timely intervention, Mr. Johnpaul Ezenwaka, President General of Aguluezechukwu Community, and Mr. Innocent Obiefuna, representing Uga community, lauded Aliko Dangote for the initiative. They emphasized the critical need for such support, particularly amidst the current economic challenges, and offered prayers for continued blessings upon the benefactor.
