Alor Monarch Marks a Decade of Leadership with 2024 New Yam Festival Celebration

Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area was abuzz with celebration as Igwe MacAnthony Okonkwo marked his 10th year on the throne during the 2024 New Yam Festival. The event drew traditional rulers, top government officials, friends, and subjects from across the state and beyond.

The festivities began with an inter-denominational church thanksgiving service, where the traditional ruler expressed gratitude to God for his successful reign and the community’s bountiful harvest. Reverend Father Emmanuel Ugbaja, speaking at the service, highlighted the role of leadership in evangelism and praised Igwe Okonkwo for his dedication to God.

In his address before the ceremonial cutting of the new yam, Igwe Okonkwo thanked God for the abundant harvest and prayed for even greater yields in the future. He emphasized the importance of agriculture in combating hunger and starvation.

Igwe Okonkwo also expressed his gratitude to God for his health and the opportunity to celebrate another New Yam Festival, noting that prayer has sustained him and his subjects. He prayed for peace and blessings for the Alor community, Anambra, and Nigeria.

Traditional rulers, including Igwe Emeka Ilouno of Ifitedunu and Igwe Joel Egwuonwu of Umuawulu, noted that the New Yam Festival fosters unity and encourages youth participation in farming, which can reduce food costs and boost the economy. They wished Igwe Okonkwo continued good health and blessings for Alor.

Mr. Amobi Ekwueme expressed joy in celebrating with Igwe Okonkwo, describing the Alor Monarch as a natural leader with a generous spirit. Other dignitaries, including the Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Sir Chido Obidiegwu, and the President General of Building Materials International Market Ogidi, Chief Jude Nwankwo, also paid homage to Igwe Okonkwo and celebrated with the Alor community.
