Residents of Amanuke community in Awka North local government area have taken to the streets in a peaceful demonstration to draw attention to the escalating insecurity plaguing their area, urging both the Federal and state governments to intervene promptly.
The one-day security walk, organized by community members, aimed to signal their collective determination to combat crime within their locality while also highlighting the need for government intervention to address what they perceive as acts of sabotage orchestrated by certain individuals.
During the march, community leaders, including Messrs Emmanuel Nweke-Nnamezie and Nwakamma Okoye, voiced concerns over various forms of criminal activities afflicting the community, such as the unauthorized sale of a generator installed by a telecommunications company. They emphasized the urgency of government intervention to restore peace and security, calling for a thorough investigation into the incidents and any potential involvement of community leaders.
Contributors to the demonstration, including Mr. Ikeh Nwafor-Ike and Mrs. Obioma Nwoye, lamented the lack of government presence and development initiatives in the town, attributing this to leadership disputes and factionalism within the community. They accused certain individuals of exploiting communal resources for personal gain, exacerbating the community’s challenges.
Pastor Hyacinth Okafor and Elder Benson Okechukwu highlighted the hardships endured by the town’s elders due to ongoing crises and insecurity, questioning the motives behind actions that undermine the well-being of the community’s most vulnerable members.
The demonstrators called on security agencies and relevant authorities to intervene swiftly, emphasizing the need to safeguard the interests of all residents and restore peace and stability to Amanuke community.
