The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has confirmed that President Bola Tinubu will soon release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Ambassador Ojukwu made the announcement during the 13th memorial anniversary of the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in Owerri on Tuesday. She emphasized that President Tinubu recognizes the significance of Kanu’s release, which she believes will help expose criminal elements misusing IPOB to incite violence in the Southeast.
“President Tinubu understands the importance of Kanu’s release. It will expose the masqueraders behind the violence and help restore order. I will do whatever it takes to ensure His Excellency grants this request,” Ojukwu stated.
She highlighted that the release of Kanu is crucial in distinguishing genuine freedom fighters from those causing unrest in the region. She further emphasized the need for the Igbo people to come together to combat criminality and insecurity, as they are known for their unity and peaceful nature.
Ojukwu also condemned the violent “sit-at-home” orders that have been imposed in the Southeast, noting that they contradict the principles of self-determination and hinder economic growth in the area.
“We must reclaim our land and continue to promote the ideals for which Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu stood,” she added.
Nnamdi Kanu has been in custody since his controversial repatriation from Kenya.
