Amorka community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State marked its annual Amorka Day on January 2, 2025, celebrating its rich cultural heritage while calling for peace and unity among its people.
The event, held in the spirit of the New Year, brought together sons and daughters of Amorka, both at home and in the diaspora, to honor tradition, discuss community development, and recognize those who have contributed to its progress.
In his opening address, the traditional ruler of Amorka, Igwe Kenneth Obiriolemgbe, praised the community’s commitment to sustaining its culture and fostering pride in its heritage. He urged individuals causing unrest in the area to embrace peace, describing Amorka as a symbol of harmony and brotherhood.
Speaking to ABS, Barrister Stanley Mbanaso, Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Judicial Service Commission; Hon. Kelechi Odingwe, Councillor representing Amorka Ward in Ihiala Council; and Chief Ugochukwu Ndukaihie, Chairman of Amorka in Diaspora, highlighted the importance of the celebration. They noted that Amorka Day offers an opportunity to unite as a family, reflect on the past year’s blessings, and strategize for the future.
The President General of Amorka Community, Mr. Emmanuel Okonkwo, led a moment of silence in honor of the late Chief Security Officer and Youth Coordinator, Chief Daniel Okoro, who was tragically killed a week before the celebration.
The event featured cultural dances, masquerade displays, and award presentations, showcasing the vibrancy and unity of the Amorka people as they prayed for peace and progress in the year ahead.
