The Anambra State House of Assembly has confirmed the Chairman and members of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC). The confirmation occurred during a plenary session following a request from Governor Chukwuma Soludo for their screening and approval.
The newly confirmed members of the Commission are Magistrate Chinelo Osakwe as Chairman, and Mrs. Beneden Obande, Barrister Cyril Igbokwe, Sir Chinedu Nnaluo, Mrs. Helen Ifeyinwa, and Mr. Emeka Okeke as Members.
Addressing the Commission members, Speaker Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze highlighted the Assembly’s commitment to facilitating the governor’s plan to conduct local government elections. He emphasized their efforts in passing the ANSIEC Law and congratulated the members on their confirmation.
Right Honourable Udeze reminded the Commission members of the high expectations from the people of Anambra, stressing that their role is crucial and there is no room for failure. He assured them of the Assembly’s support in ensuring the state receives the best outcomes, urging them to be dedicated, committed, and selfless in their duties.
In her vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Commission, Magistrate Osakwe, pledged to work in the best interest of the state and assured that the Commission would meet all expectations.
