The Anambra State House of Assembly has described the passage of the 2025 budget, totaling ₦607 billion, as a crucial milestone in driving the state’s development agenda.
Speaking at a media briefing following the budget’s approval, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Sir Ejike Okechukwu, commended the comprehensive approach taken during the budget’s review. He noted that while the overall budget size remained as presented by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, adjustments were made within and across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure optimal resource utilization.
The budget allocates ₦139.5 billion (23%) for recurrent expenditure and ₦467.5 billion (77%) for capital projects, underscoring a strong focus on infrastructure and long-term growth.
“The budget size remains unchanged, but internal realignments were necessary to address urgent needs and improve efficiency. Key institutions like Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University and Nwafor Orizu College of Education received increased funding for operational improvements,” Sir Okechukwu explained.
Expressing confidence in the executive arm’s capacity to achieve over 80% budget implementation, Sir Okechukwu emphasized the legislature’s commitment to fiscal prudence.
Honourable Noble Igwe, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, praised the judicious management of public funds during the current fiscal year and affirmed that a thorough review of the budget showed no need for size adjustments.
Meanwhile, Engr. Emma Nwafor, Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure, highlighted the priority given to infrastructural projects in the 2025 budget. “Every MDA’s needs were carefully considered during bilateral discussions. This budget is set to bring significant progress to Anambra State,” he remarked.
