The Anambra State House of Assembly has received a ₦606.99 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year from Governor Chukwuma Soludo. The budget, titled *”Changing Gears 2.0,”* was presented during a plenary session at the Assembly Complex in Awka.
This proposed budget reflects a 48% increase from the ₦410.13 billion allocated in 2024, signaling a significant push for development. Of the total, ₦467.5 billion is earmarked for capital projects, constituting 77% of the budget, while ₦139.5 billion is allocated for recurrent expenditures, maintaining the same 77:23 capital-to-recurrent ratio as the previous year.
The proposed budget includes a ₦148.3 billion deficit, representing 24% of the total budget—a reduction from the 30% deficit recorded in 2024.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, commended the budget presentation, describing it as a critical step in shaping Anambra’s future. Governor Soludo, in his address, highlighted the budget’s focus on addressing the state’s developmental needs and fulfilling the aspirations of its people.
The Assembly is expected to scrutinize the proposal to ensure it aligns with the state’s strategic development goals and delivers maximum impact.
