Anambra Assembly’s Committee Reports Progress on State Water Schemes, Calls for Accelerated Completion

Residents of Anambra State are set to benefit from new water schemes initiated by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, according to the Chairman of the House Committee on Power and Water Resources, Honourable Golden Iloh. During an oversight visit to various project sites in Onitsha and Otuocha, Iloh confirmed substantial progress on the water projects.

The inspection covered the Otuocha Water Scheme, Greater Onitsha Water Scheme, GRA, and Owellebo, where maintenance activities such as work on reservoirs, treatment plants, reticulating pipes, clearing operations, and the installation of solar-powered boreholes were observed.

The committee engaged with the companies responsible for the projects to address the challenges and delays they were encountering. Honourable Iloh, representing Ihiala Constituency Two, noted that the primary purpose of the visit was to ensure proper utilization of the funds allocated for these water projects.

“The water schemes aim to provide reliable and clean water to various communities across the state, addressing long-standing issues of water scarcity,” stated Iloh. He emphasized that the projects are expected to enhance residents’ quality of life, support public health, and foster economic development.

Iloh also provided feedback and identified areas for improvement to the project handlers, urging them to expedite their efforts and complete the projects on schedule.

The Majority Leader and Member representing Ekwusigo Constituency, Sir Ikenna Ofodeme, echoed Governor Soludo’s commitment to delivering the best for the people of Anambra. He highlighted that the successful completion of the water schemes would significantly alleviate water challenges in the state, urging the involved companies to intensify their efforts.
