Anambra State joined the rest of the nation today in celebrating Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, with Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo leading the festivities at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
The celebration was marked with vibrant parades and march-pasts, with top government officials and dignitaries present to witness the event.
Governor Soludo kicked off the ceremony by inspecting the guard of honour before a parade featuring the Nigeria Police, Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA), Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), and students from various schools.
In his address, Governor Soludo praised the founding fathers of Nigeria for their role in securing the nation’s independence 64 years ago. He urged the citizens to uphold their patriotism and continue striving for the country’s progress. He also addressed key developmental issues in Anambra, encouraging ongoing support for the state’s drive toward sustainable growth.
The ceremony concluded with the cutting of the Independence cake, with Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, State House Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, and service commanders among the dignitaries in attendance.
