The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, has discharged nine inmates awaiting trial at the Aguata Correctional Centre during a visit to the facility.
The freed individuals are Emeri Okeke, Chukwujekwu Okpara, Ogechi Onyeanusi, Innocent Chukwuma, Ejike Orji, Chiemelie Nwosu, Saledu Mohammed, Ogochukwu Ezeagba, and Chinecherem Orjiakor.
Explaining his decision, Justice Anyachebelu cited the abandonment of the cases by complainants, which made further prosecution unjustifiable. Additionally, he granted bail to two other inmates, Nnamdi Anenegbu and Nnamdi Okoli, who had been remanded for alleged armed robbery and murder.
Deputy Controller of the Aguata Correctional Centre, Mr. Michael Orjiakor, expressed gratitude for the Chief Judge’s intervention, highlighting its positive impact on decongesting the facility. He urged the freed inmates to exhibit good behavior in society.
