Anambra Commissioner for Information Explores Expansion and Training Initiatives for Ministry

The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has expressed his commitment to exploring the creation of additional departments within the Ministry of Information to enhance its performance. He made this statement during a courtesy visit by the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ministry of Information Chapel, at his office in Awka.

Dr. Mefor emphasized the importance of modernizing the ministry’s operations, particularly through training and re-skilling of staff to adapt to the rapidly evolving media landscape. “Even those with degrees in Mass Communication or Journalism need retraining. The new media has changed everything, and without upgrading, we risk being left behind,” he said, stressing the need for a paradigm shift in government communications.

He outlined potential initiatives, including adding new departments, equipping the Situation Room, and providing transportation for the ministry, as steps that could further promote the state government’s achievements.

The Commissioner also expressed his gratitude to the NUJ leaders for their support and assured them of his commitment to providing leadership and motivating the ministry’s workers.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ministry of Information Chapel of NUJ, Dr. Stanley Ikem Onunkwo, commended Dr. Mefor for his hard work and outlined the chapel’s requests, including the creation of more departments, staff training, and additional resources to enhance the ministry’s functions.

The visit was attended by key ministry officials, including the Acting Director of Information, Emma Ikegwuani, and his deputy, Mrs. Chinyere Ogbuagu.
