Anambra State has continued its impressive performance at the 8th edition of the National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, increasing its gold medal tally to five.
Chioma Edeh emerged as the standout athlete of the day, clinching a gold medal in the 800 meters event. Edeh’s victory was remarkable as she outpaced strong competition from Delta State, the host team, in the short-distance race.
In other events, Team Anambra narrowly missed out on a gold medal in the Female Scrabble team event. Despite a valiant effort by Onyinye Nnemkwo, Victoria Chimamanda Chukwuemeka, and Catherine Ubammayie, Kwara State triumphed, leaving Anambra with a silver medal.
Anambra’s Female Beach Volleyball team, consisting of Gift Iwobi and Chioma Omah, secured a spot in the Grand Finale after defeating their Bayelsa counterparts in a thrilling match.
In Track and Field, gold medalists Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo and Adaeze Eze advanced to the finals of the 200 meters event. Nwankwo, who previously won gold in the 100 meters, finished second in Heat One of the semifinals, while long jump champion Adaeze Eze dominated Heat Two, earning her place in the 200 meters final.
Anambra’s athletes continue to demonstrate their strength and determination as the games progress.
