The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has urged affluent individuals and organizations to provide support for victims affected by the recent flood disaster in Anambra.
Dr. Ibezim made this appeal during a visit to the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) office in Awka, where he inspected relief materials worth 250 million naira. The items were donated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to support communities impacted by the 2024 flooding in the state.
As Chairman of the Anambra State Flood Committee, Dr. Ibezim expressed relief that no casualties had been reported in the affected areas or holding centers. He commended the church for its timely intervention and called on other groups to follow its example in aiding the affected communities.
Representatives of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Elder Nwachinemele Otuonye, and Mr. Charles Adebayo, the church’s Regional Manager for Welfare and Self-Reliance Services, highlighted the church’s commitment to assisting the poor and vulnerable, mirroring the mission of Jesus Christ. They noted that other Nigerian states affected by the floods this year would also receive similar support.
The church representatives expressed hope that the relief items would reach the intended recipients and assured ongoing collaboration with the Anambra State government to improve the well-being of residents.
