The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honorable Chukwuma Okoye, has emphasized the importance of regular exercise for maintaining a healthy body and mind.
Hon. Okoye made this statement during the fifth edition of the “Amawbia Walk,” an annual event aimed at fostering unity, relaxation, and public awareness of government programs and policies.
The walk, facilitated by Hon. Okoye, saw participants cover an impressive distance of 9.14 kilometers, recording 11,916 steps. The event demonstrated the vitality and fitness of the attendees while reinforcing the importance of community bonding.
Explaining the purpose of the initiative, Hon. Okoye noted that the walk is more than a sporting activity. It is a platform to promote unity and progress in Amawbia, stressing that a healthy population is the most valuable asset for any community or constituency.
He further highlighted the event’s broader goals, including fostering personal discipline, cultivating wellness, and enhancing communal harmony across Amawbia and Anambra State.
Former town leaders, including Comrade Ebele Nwufo and Deputy President General Mr. Chukwuemeka Nwora, praised the Deputy Speaker for his sustained sponsorship of the initiative. They noted that this year’s edition recorded an impressive turnout of both indigenes and non-indigenes, making it a resounding success.
Participants like Nneka Uzokama and Udochukwu Nwora lauded the event for making the yuletide season memorable. They appreciated its role in helping them explore the town, network, and celebrate the spirit of togetherness, commending Hon. Okoye for his thoughtful leadership.
