In a bid to promote healthy living and sustainable agricultural practices, the wife of the Anambra State Governor and founder of the *Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo* initiative, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has launched the Healthy Living Garden Programme and a weekly physical exercise routine in Anaocha Local Government Area.
The launch, which took place at the local government headquarters in Neni, marks the beginning of a medium-scale agricultural revolution aimed at encouraging organic farming, healthy food consumption, and reducing the cost of household crops and vegetables. The garden programme is expected to evolve into a farmers’ market, offering a variety of fresh produce at affordable prices to residents.
Mrs. Soludo, during her address, outlined the models of the two projects and emphasized the importance of community involvement in their implementation. She urged parents and guardians to embrace traditional child-rearing practices that involve the entire community, rather than leaving the responsibility solely to parents. “Healthy living starts with the choices we make daily, and these initiatives are designed to help our communities make better choices for their health and well-being,” she stated.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, commended the initiative, noting that its focus on simple, healthy lifestyle choices aligns perfectly with the state government’s goal of providing quality and affordable healthcare. “The Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative is a testament to the administration’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of Ndi Anambra,” he said.
The Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Mr. Romanus Ibekwe, expressed optimism about the projects, stating that the council is eager to leverage them to bring about a much-needed agricultural and health revolution in the area. “This initiative will not only promote healthy living but also empower our local farmers and boost the economy,” he added.
To mark the official commencement of the garden programme, Mrs. Soludo performed a ceremonial planting of crops at the council’s Healthy Living Garden. The initiative is already gaining traction, with several local government areas across the state adopting similar programmes to promote organic farming and healthy living among their residents.
The launch of the Healthy Living Garden Programme and weekly workouts underscores the Anambra State Government’s commitment to fostering a healthier, more sustainable future for its citizens.
