Anambra Government Cracks Down on Stacking Building Materials Along Roads

The Anambra State government has issued a stern warning to developers, traders, and residents against the practice of stacking building materials along roads and drainage systems, citing the significant risks it poses to road safety and the environment.

The warning was delivered by Comrade Celestine Anere, Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, during the agency’s routine inspection drive across the state, with a particular focus on Nnewi.

Comrade Anere expressed concern over the increasing frequency of building materials being left on roads, stating that this practice not only endangers road users but also leads to the obstruction of water channels, which can cause flooding and other environmental hazards. He emphasized that the agency would soon begin confiscating such materials and issuing notices to those in violation, especially developers.

The operation, according to Anere, aims to ensure that traders operating along the roads and developers whose activities obstruct drainage systems are held accountable. The OCHA Brigade is committed to enhancing the living standards of Anambra residents by strictly enforcing environmental hygiene laws across the state.

During the drive, several construction sites were served notices for blocking waterways and hindering the free flow of water, signaling the government’s serious stance on maintaining a clean and safe environment.
