The Anambra State Government has reiterated its directive for the complete relocation of traders currently operating along Port Harcourt Road, Uga Street, and Atani Road in Onitsha to the Allied Building Materials International Market, Nteje, located at Kilometre 8 on the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway.

The Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, made this known during an official visit to the market in Nteje, stating that all affected traders must conclude their relocation by January 1, 2026.

Chief Uba explained that the directive applies to several unions, including the Iron Dealers Union, God’s Favor Building Materials Union, Premier Lock-Up Union, Trinity and Unity Union, PVC Pipe Union, Combined Building Materials Union, Plastic Tanks Union, and other traders operating outside approved market locations in Onitsha.

He stressed that the deadline is final, warning that traders or unions that fail to comply will be subjected to enforcement measures, as the government will no longer tolerate street trading, traffic obstruction, or market disorder within the Onitsha metropolis.

According to him, the relocation exercise aligns with the state government’s efforts to promote order, safety, and economic efficiency in markets across Anambra State, particularly in Onitsha, described as a major commercial hub in the South-East.

The Special Adviser assured traders that sufficient facilities have been provided at the KM 8 market to accommodate all affected unions, adding that the permanent site in Nteje offers improved space, accessibility, and room for future expansion.
