In a continued effort to enhance the education sector, the Anambra State Government, through the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), has organized its 2024 annual retreat for 267 school principals. The retreat, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, took place in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.
Addressing the participants, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, commended the principals for their support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s education reforms. She emphasized that school premises are sacred and should not be used for unauthorized activities, while urging the principals to report any land encroachment and ensure students adhere to the state’s dress code.
The retreat’s theme, “Empowering Principals for Effective Discipline and Academic Excellence in Anambra State Secondary Schools,” was designed to tackle challenges observed during monitoring and supervision in the past year. PPSSC Executive Chairman, Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, urged the principals to leverage the knowledge gained to revitalize their schools and improve discipline and leadership.
Honourable Ejike Okechukwu, representing Anaocha 2 constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, praised teaching as a divine profession, highlighting the government’s commitment to paying the national minimum wage to teachers and civil servants once the budget is approved.
Also present at the retreat was the Executive Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, who underscored the importance of discipline among both teachers and students.
The retreat featured presentations from renowned academics and resource persons, including Professors Vivian Nwagbo, Tagbo Ibeneme, Naomi Samuel, and Dr. Ngozi Agbasimalo. Key officials from PPSSC and ASUBEB also attended the event.
