The Anambra State Government, through its Ministry of Transportation, recently organized a one-day training and sensitization programme for operators in the motor vehicle trade and service sectors. The event targeted auto-spare parts dealers, auto service centers, mechanics, caterpillar dealers and repairers, tricycle and motorcycle dealers and repairers, tow truck operators, and tyre dealers, among others.
The Commissioner for Transport, Barrister Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Chief Michael Obiekwe, highlighted the government’s commitment to empowering these professionals. She emphasized the importance of participants disseminating the day’s messages to their peers, noting the government’s steps to regulate their operations for the benefit of all.
Prince Fidelis Nnadi, a consultant and Coordinator on Special Trade Licenses with the Ministry of Transport, praised the initiative, stating that it aims to enhance safety for life and property. He lauded the state government for implementing relevant laws to support this cause.
Other key speakers, including the Head of Transport Operations, Mr. Christian Okeke, and Chief Vehicle Inspection Officer, Mr. MacDonald Achuam, underscored the programme’s significance. They stressed the importance of understanding and complying with relevant laws, which would help businesses gain broader recognition and government support.
Participants such as car dealer Mr. Bosa Okenwa, automobile electrician Mr. Izuchukwu Agbo, mechanic Mr. Uchenna Aniebonam, and panel beater Mr. Amobi Uzor, expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts in regulating their industries. They also called on the government to establish a mechanic village in Awka to facilitate their operations and increase revenue.
