The Anambra State Government has partnered with Dilimson Holdings Limited to explore and expand opportunities in the livestock sector through the use of innovative technologies. This collaboration is aimed at enhancing livestock management and development across the state.
To drive the initiative, an 18-member steering committee for the “Anambra State Livestock Information Management System” has been inaugurated. The partnership will focus on building a comprehensive livestock database and implementing global best practices in the sector.
Speaking during the collaborative meeting held in Awka, the State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, expressed confidence that the project would significantly contribute to the Ministry’s livestock development goals. “For us to measure livestock in Anambra, we need to know what they are, where they are, and how they are being managed,” Dr. Ihejiofor stated.
He commended Dilimson Holdings for their support and encouraged the steering committee members to work diligently to deliver value to the people of Anambra.
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, provided background information on the collaboration, explaining that the committee would receive presentations to clarify their roles in the project.
The Chief Executive Officer of Dilimson Holdings, Mr. George Umobi, highlighted the importance of technology in the livestock sector, particularly in animal identification and management. He explained that the firm, financially supported by Romania Aid, has over 20 years of experience in the field. “Tagging these animals is crucial for farm management, animal health development, and veterinary services,” Umobi added.
The project, which will digitize livestock management, was formalized with a memorandum of understanding signed in May 2024, outlining the framework for collaboration.
The meeting culminated in the inauguration of the steering committee by Dr. Ihejiofor, with key members including Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, Dr. Chu Basil Ejidike, Mr. James Obienyem, and Mr. George Umobi, among others. The team will oversee the implementation of the project, ensuring its success in transforming the livestock sector in Anambra State.
