In a drive to create a cleaner and safer environment, the Anambra State Government has launched a four-day operation to relocate illegal motor parks and roadside operators from major routes in Onitsha to designated locations. The exercise, spearheaded by the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade and the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, targets motor parks, buses, and tricycles currently stationed along MCC to Obosi Central Park.
Comrade Celestine Anere, Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, explained to journalists that the operation involves the removal of makeshift structures, traders, and squatters along key roadsides. The government has issued repeated warnings and intends to enforce this directive daily to ensure full compliance.
Comrade Anere emphasized the importance of adhering to government directives, noting that designated parks are being standardized for better organization and digitalization. The relocation effort began with the demolition of temporary shanties and unauthorized setups along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, including walkways and spaces under pedestrian bridges, stretching from MCC Road to Upper Iweka.
The relocation also directs drivers to use approved motor parks like Obiano, Owerri Central, and Omanbala Parks located at Bridge Head, Onitsha.
