The Anambra State Government, through its Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, has taken decisive action against environmental violations by sealing off hotels and business premises in Awka and its environs. The enforcement action follows weeks of court summons served by the agency and the Ministry of Environment on non-compliant businesses.
Expressing concern over the flagrant disobedience to environmental laws, Comrade Celestine Anere, the Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, emphasized the necessity of upholding environmental regulations to maintain societal order. Anere noted that the decision to seal off the premises was prompted by public outcry over the deteriorating environmental conditions in the affected areas.
Addressing the persistent challenge of non-compliance with environmental laws, Anere highlighted the establishment of additional enforcement teams to facilitate prompt responses to residents’ reports of environmental issues. He reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting a clean, green, and healthy environment, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in achieving this vision.
The enforcement action underscores the government’s resolve to address environmental violations and uphold the welfare of residents by ensuring compliance with established regulations. As efforts intensify to safeguard the environmental integrity of Anambra State, residents are encouraged to actively participate in reporting environmental concerns for swift intervention and resolution.
