The wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts to support individuals displaced by recent flooding during her visit to Unity Primary School in Umuoba Anam. This facility currently serves as a shelter for over 1,000 flood victims, predominantly women and children.
Accompanied by a team from the World Health Organization (WHO), led by South East Zonal Coordinator Dr. Chukwumuanya Igboekwu, Mrs. Soludo inspected the conditions of the camp and addressed the residents. She expressed deep concern for the challenges faced by those affected by the natural disaster and urged community involvement in providing assistance.
Highlighting the need for improved health and sanitation within the camp, Mrs. Soludo stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene standards, particularly for women and children. She called on camp administrators to ensure proper dietary practices and adhere to safety guidelines for the well-being of all residents.
Encouraging those displaced to remain resilient, she reassured them that their current hardships are temporary.
Dr. Igboekwu reaffirmed the WHO’s commitment to collaborating with the state government to deliver essential aid to the camp. He announced plans for a mobile clinic to address emerging health needs, ensuring that residents leave the camp in good health.
Sir Ifeanyichukwu Chinweze, Chairman of Anambra East Local Government Area, acknowledged the government’s ongoing support for the camp’s daily needs and thanked Mrs. Soludo for her compassionate visit.
The Governor’s wife was joined by key officials, including the Commissioner for Power and Water Resources, Engineer Julius Chukwuemeka, and the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, during her visit.
