The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has pledged to ensure that justice is served in the case of Mrs. Ifeoma Nwafor, who was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Mr. Chukwujekwu Nwafor, in Amaokpala, Orumba North Local Government Area.
Mrs. Soludo gave the assurance after visiting the victim at a hospital in Oko, where she is receiving treatment for injuries sustained during the attack. The incident, captured in a viral video on November 30, 2024, showed Mrs. Nwafor severely battered and lying helplessly by a bush path at night while clutching her eight-month-old baby.
In the video, Mrs. Nwafor, a resident of Ajango Village, Amaokpala, alleged that her husband assaulted her following a disagreement. Upon seeing the video, Mrs. Soludo immediately directed that the victim be located and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
Represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, Mrs. Soludo visited the private medical facility where Mrs. Nwafor was receiving care. The attending doctor confirmed that the victim had received adequate treatment for injuries to her face and head.
Beyond covering Mrs. Nwafor’s medical expenses, Mrs. Soludo arranged for her to secure a job with the Orumba North Local Government Council to provide sustainable income for her and her two children. She also organized the delivery of food supplies to the family in the coming days.
Reiterating her commitment to protecting women and children in Anambra State, Mrs. Soludo assured that the alleged perpetrator would face the full weight of the law. She emphasized the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for domestic violence and abuse, warning that offenders would be held accountable.
This intervention underscores the state government’s resolve to combat gender-based violence and support vulnerable individuals in the community.
