Anambra Governor’s Wife Launches Supplement to Combat Child Malnutrition

Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor, has introduced a natural food supplement aimed at addressing malnutrition among children in the state. The product, named ‘Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap,’ was launched in Awka today.

Mrs. Soludo explained that the supplement is a well-prepared, natural meal designed to enhance children’s immune systems. It consists of groundnut, corn, and soya bean, and is rich in vitamins B1, B2, B3, and iron.

During her speech at the launch, Mrs. Soludo expressed her mission to support children with special nutritional needs and aimed for Anambra State to achieve the lowest under-5 mortality rate in the country. She highlighted the widespread issue of protein deficiency among Nigerian children due to the lack of accessible, affordable food sources. Her goal is to bridge this gap with an effective, comprehensive intervention.

Mrs. Soludo emphasized that while the government continues to develop strategies to combat child malnutrition, her NGO will provide additional support to ensure these strategies yield effective results, especially given the impact of food insecurity and economic challenges on rural communities.

Dr. Afam Obidike, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, announced a distribution plan for the supplement across the state’s 21 local government areas. Each local government will have a referral center to access the meal, with a central database to monitor and track children’s recovery progress.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, praised Mrs. Soludo for her initiative and commitment to making Anambra State a leader in health excellence.

Keynote speakers at the event, Dr. Chioma Mbachu, a consultant pediatrician, and Mrs. Jane Umeugo, a nutritionist, affirmed that Nonye’s Healthy Living Pap contains the necessary nutrients to address child malnutrition, including protein, healthy fats, fiber, carbohydrates, and zinc.

The event concluded with the official unveiling and presentation of the product to representatives from each of the 21 local government areas, including transition committee chairmen and heads of designated medical facilities.
