The Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, has called on media professionals to maintain the highest standards of ethics and professionalism. Emphasizing the critical role of fair, accurate, and objective reporting, Dr. Mefor stressed that adherence to these principles would reinforce the media’s role as society’s trusted watchdog.
Dr. Mefor made these remarks on October 25 during a courtesy visit by the Anambra chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), led by its chairperson, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejirika. The meeting was held at his office at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat in Awka.
Acknowledging the media’s impact on governance and democracy, the commissioner urged journalists to give more prominence to Anambra State in their coverage. He noted that the achievements of the current administration are often underreported, underlining the media’s role in shaping public perception and spotlighting government successes.
In her response, Comrade Ifejirika expressed gratitude for the commissioner’s warm reception. She reaffirmed NAWOJ’s commitment to ethical journalism and pledged the association’s cooperation with the state government to foster progress. She was joined on the visit by other NAWOJ members, who echoed their support for the state’s development objectives.
