Henry Mbachu, the representative of Awka 1 state constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, has sounded the alarm over a spate of deadly clashes linked to cult activities in Awka, revealing that at least 34 individuals have lost their lives in the past three weeks alone.
Expressing deep concern over the deteriorating security situation, Mbachu highlighted the unsettling reality that Awka, as the state capital, is witnessing a surge in violence despite the presence of top government officials and security personnel.
Speaking out against the senseless loss of lives, Mbachu, who belongs to the Labour Party (LP), underscored the urgency of addressing the escalating crisis. He emphasized the need for collective action to stem the tide of violence and restore peace to the community.
Asserting the need for decisive intervention, Mbachu urged all stakeholders, including government officials, security agencies, and community leaders, to unite in confronting the menace of cultism. He questioned the inability of authorities to effectively combat the activities of cult groups, given the prominent presence of security personnel in Awka.
Expressing dismay over the relentless bloodshed, Mbachu stressed the importance of taking concrete steps to address the root causes of the violence. He called for a comprehensive approach that goes beyond conventional law enforcement measures, advocating for community engagement and proactive strategies to tackle the underlying issues fueling the unrest.
In response to the escalating crisis, Mbachu announced plans to convene a security summit aimed at mobilizing collective efforts to address the challenges facing Awka. He called upon residents to actively participate in the summit and contribute to the development of effective solutions to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.
