Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Dr Law Mefor has declared that the last Saturday’s Local Government election in the state which was won by APGA party candidates was a referendum on the sterling performance of the governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR.

Dr Mefor made the announcement virtually when he was giving his views on the outcomes of the election on Channels Television’s Launch time Politics programme which was anchored by Kayode Okikiolu.

On the allegation that many parties boycotted the exercise, the commissioner maintained thusly, ” Many parties participated in that election. Unfortunately, they did not win. The reason is not farfetched, Anambra is APGA
The second reason is because of the sterling performance of Professor Soludo.”

Continuing, he said, ” He has done so much and so well. In fact, the election points to the fact that the people indeed appreciate the governor and the political party under which he ran and won his own election (APGA).”

” Don’t forget, the local government election was projected to be a referendum on Soludo’s performance and it turned out to be exactly the same thing because the people gave a resounding yes to his party and therefore to him affirming him as the one they voted for”, the commissioner maintained.

Recall, the All Progressives Grand Alliance Party (APGA) won all the twenty-one (21) chairmanship and three hundred and twenty-six (326) wards councillorship seats in the September 28, 2024 local government election conducted by the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

The election has been adjudged as peaceful, transparent and fair by civil society organizations and other election observer groups that monitored the exercise.
