The Anambra State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), in partnership with the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has marked the 2025 Women’s Day with a call for women to support and uplift one another.
The event, held at the Dr. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka, was themed “Accelerate Action for Gender Equality” with a sub-theme, “Projecting Anambra Women Achievers: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.” It brought together women from different backgrounds, highlighting the need to empower women and the girl child for a more inclusive society.
In her remarks, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Anambra State, Comrade Tochukwu Ifejika, stressed the importance of providing women with equal opportunities in leadership and professional spaces.
The state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the Chairman of the occasion and Acting Vice-Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, Professor Kate Omenugha, and the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, all emphasized the need to support women and ensure no female voice is left unheard.
The event also honored outstanding women, both past and present, who have contributed significantly in various fields. Among those recognized were Dr. Nonye Soludo, former Anambra State Governor Dame Virgy Etiaba, Professor Chinyere Okunna, and the late Professor Dora Akunyili.
The celebration aimed to inspire women to excel while fostering unity and mutual support among them.
