The Anambra State Police Command has made significant breakthroughs in its fight against crime, arresting two suspected cultists and armed robbers, rescuing two rape victims, and recovering dangerous weapons and stolen items.
Police operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad in Enugu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area, acting on credible intelligence, raided a black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South LGA, late on Saturday, December 7, 2024. The operation led to the arrest of Okechukwu Chinwuko (27) of Umunaga Village and Ezenwa Chinedu (22) of Umuneri Village.
Recovered from the suspects were a pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs. Police also rescued two female victims who had been sexually assaulted by the suspects.
The arrested individuals are currently undergoing interrogation, with further details about their activities to be released by the police in due course.
In another operation on the same day, officers from the Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Police Headquarters recovered an abandoned white Peugeot J5 Boxer bus (Reg No: AKL 896 XB) containing a vandalized Lister electricity generator, iron bars, pipes, a metal cutter, and various tools.
The recovery occurred near an MTN telecommunications mast in Igbo-Ukwu, where criminals were caught vandalizing the generator. Upon spotting the police, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning their loot.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, and the police have appealed to residents to provide any useful information that could aid in their capture.
The Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reassured the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order while ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
