The Anambra State Police Command, in partnership with the Anambra Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), joined the global campaign against Gender-Based Violence as part of the ongoing *16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence*. The observance took place on December 6, 2024, in Awka.
The campaign focuses on raising awareness and mobilizing action to end all forms of violence against women and girls. The Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to addressing issues related to gender-based violence, sexual assault, harassment, and other related crimes through its specialized units. These include the Juvenile, Women & Child (JWC) unit, the Anti-Human Trafficking unit, and the Anti-Child Labour unit, all of which focus on handling sensitive cases and protecting vulnerable groups.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, emphasized the command’s ongoing efforts to ensure justice for victims and to promote public safety. The collaboration with NAWOJ reflects a shared commitment to advocacy, awareness, and action against gender-based violence in the state.
The campaign aligns with global initiatives to combat violence against women and girls and underscores the importance of community partnerships in driving change.
