Anambra Police Foil Kidnapping of Foreigner, Recover Cultists’ Bodies, Investigate Suspected Ritual Killing

Police operatives in Anambra State successfully thwarted the attempted abduction of a foreign national by armed secessionist members in Ogbunka village on October 6, 2024. The officers engaged the attackers in a gunfight, rescuing the foreigner, while two police officers were injured during the exchange. The officers, who are now stable, are receiving treatment in the hospital, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the attackers.

In a separate incident on the same day, police responded to a distress call regarding a suspected cult clash in Umuka, Nawfia. Upon arrival, officers discovered four young men dead from multiple gunshot wounds. The victims, identified as Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta, Nnatuanya Junior (a.k.a. Starboy), Aniemena (a.k.a. Osama), and Ahmed Auwal, were known for their involvement in rival cult activities. Their bodies were transported to the morgue, and police have intensified joint patrols with the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) in the area to prevent further violence.

Additionally, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered an immediate investigation into the murder of a 17-year-old girl, Chinasa Adigwe, whose mutilated body was discovered in a bush at Omasi village. The police suspect ritualistic motives, as her private parts were removed. The CP expressed condolences to the family and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
