Anambra Service Chiefs Present Security Plan for Upcoming LG Elections

Security chiefs from various agencies in Anambra State have unveiled a comprehensive “Security Master Plan” to ensure smooth conduct of the local government elections scheduled for September 28, 2024. The plan, designed for the 5720 polling units across 326 wards in the state, was presented to the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC).

Led by Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nnaghe Itam, the security plan involves a coordinated effort between the Police, Nigerian Military, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and several other agencies. According to Mr. Itam, the plan aims to deploy two to four security officers per polling unit, depending on resource availability.

Addressing concerns over the volatile security situation in the state, Mr. Itam assured that security forces are working to dismantle over eleven known criminal camps. He also mentioned plans to bring additional security personnel into the state, ensuring a peaceful election process.

The Chairman of ANSIEC, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, expressed gratitude to the service chiefs for their collaboration and emphasized Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to free, fair, and credible elections as a cornerstone for restoring security and driving development in Anambra.
