The Anambra State 8th Assembly marked its first year in office with a special thanksgiving service held at the State Legislative Chambers in Awka. The event, officiated by the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, drew numerous dignitaries, including the State Governor’s representative, Deputy Governor Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, lawmakers, government officials, traditional rulers, and various community members.
In his address, Speaker of the 8th Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, highlighted the assembly’s accomplishments over the past year, despite the inherent challenges of lawmaking. He emphasized the assembly’s role in passing laws that shape government policies and enhance the well-being of Ndi Anambra.
Under Udeze’s leadership, the assembly recorded an 80% attendance rate across 59 plenary sessions from July 2023 to 2024, demonstrating the lawmakers’ dedication to addressing their constituencies’ needs. The Speaker expressed gratitude to the state governor for fostering a strong synergy between the executive and legislative branches, contributing to a more dignified legislative process.
In his sermon, Most Reverend Ibezim congratulated the 8th Assembly and its leader, Right Honourable Udeze, on their achievements over the past year. He emphasized the assembly’s vital role in shaping Anambra State’s political landscape and praised their legislative productivity. The Archbishop encouraged the assembly to continue their diligent work for the state’s progress.
