Anambra State Assembly Applauds Governor Soludo’s Extension of Free Education to Senior Secondary Schools

The Anambra State House of Assembly has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for expanding his free education policy to include Senior Secondary School students in the state’s public schools. The resolution was passed unanimously after a motion by Mr. Anayo Okpaleke, representing Aguata Constituency One and Chairman of the House Committee on Education.

Speaker Mr. Somtoo Udeze read out the resolution, which received a unanimous voice vote in support. In his remarks, Okpaleke highlighted that Governor Soludo initially provided free education from Nursery through Junior Secondary (JSS 3) and has now extended this benefit to Senior Secondary students. He noted that the policy is equipping more students with the skills to excel and realize their potential, thereby fostering individual and community development.

Okpaleke also pointed to a significant increase in public school enrollments, attributing this to the governor’s efforts to remove socio-economic barriers to education. Members from various constituencies, including Chief Tony Muobike (Aguata Constituency Two), Noble Igwe (Ogbaru Constituency One), and Deputy Majority Leader Dr. Jude Akpua, praised the governor’s initiative, describing it as transformative for the state’s educational landscape.

In other proceedings, the House passed the report from the Committee on Finance and Appropriation concerning the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), Economic and Fiscal Update (EFU), Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), and Budget Policy Statement (BPS). These documents set forth Anambra State’s fiscal plans and economic priorities, aiming to create a strong foundation for sustainable development and responsible budgeting over the next three years.
