Awka – Dr. Law Mefor, Commissioner for Information in Anambra State, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Greg Ezeilo, Chairman and Executive Officer of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), at the agency’s headquarters in Awka on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Dr. Mefor emphasized the need to raise awareness among Anambra citizens on the importance of tax payment, which he identified as essential to funding Governor Charles Soludo’s ambitious developmental projects across the state. Mefor expressed his commitment to fostering collaboration between the Ministry of Information and AIRS to enhance public understanding of tax responsibilities.
“Governor Soludo has initiated several mega projects that require substantial funding to reach completion. If we can bolster internally generated revenue, these projects will be fully realized in good time,” said Mefor. He further noted that the governor’s focus on developmental projects demonstrates that taxpayer funds are being allocated effectively.
“Tax compliance is critical, especially as the state receives minimal allocations from the federal government. We at the Ministry of Information are prepared to support AIRS in mobilizing and sensitizing our citizens on the benefits of tax compliance,” he added.
Commending Anambra residents for their contributions to the Soludo administration’s goals through tax payments, Dr. Mefor underscored the need for continued public support, suggesting that increased awareness of ongoing projects could encourage greater tax compliance.
Responding to Mefor’s remarks, Dr. Ezeilo highlighted the substantial progress Anambra State has achieved under Governor Soludo’s administration, attributing these advancements to robust revenue generation. He expressed confidence that other states would soon look to Anambra as a model for efficient revenue management.
Concluding the visit, Dr. Ezeilo conducted a tour of the AIRS office for the commissioner, showcasing the awards and recognitions the institution has received as the best-performing government agency in the South-East region.
