The Anambra State Government has clarified reports that excluded the state from the list of those implementing the new minimum wage of ₦70,000. According to a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, the state began paying the new wage in October 2024.
The statement emphasized that Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to workers’ welfare is evident in the prompt implementation of the new wage policy. The payment commenced with October salaries, fulfilling the governor’s earlier promise.
Additionally, the government announced an upward adjustment in pensions to ensure retirees in the state also benefit from higher take-home earnings.
“Professor Chukwuma Soludo remains a labour-friendly governor. Workers in Anambra State not only receive the new minimum wage but also continue to get their salary alerts on or before the 25th of every month,” the statement read.
This clarification comes amid reports that grouped Anambra among states merely expressing interest in the new wage, rather than actively implementing it. The government reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of workers and pensioners across the state.
